The PATRIOT Act Providing Appropriate Tools Required to...

No one will ever forget the tragic events that happened on September 11th 2001. The largest act of terrorism on citizens this country has ever seen. The next month Congress passed The USA PATRIOT ACT, a clever acronym for Uniting and Strengthening of America through Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism. This act, designed to halt terrorism, gives the government more power than the constitution provides. No one should bear the power to spy on you, hold you without trial, deny you of free speech, to enter your home; this is a violation of American liberties and the constitution. Benjamin Franklin once said â€Å"Those who are willing to sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither†. Now they can say someone looks like a terrorist, and strip them of their rights under this PATRIOT Act. But roving wire-taps without warrant alone were not enough to protect us from the highly deadly threat of terrorism, the government needed more power, they needed access to our personal records, whether or not is was protected by the constitution. The loss of our personal privacy, and the display of everything that makes one themselves, a thought that used to terrify Americans not so long ago has happened under the PATRIOT Act. There are many sections under area 2 of the PATRIOT Act, too many to mention, that specifically give the government the right to access almost all of our personal records. The access to what movies you have seen, books you have checked out, what you buy, how you live, nearly anything you can think of, and anything you do Big Brother has the ability to see it all now . Now if you do anything the government deems â€Å"suspicious† the government will immediately put you on their terrorist watch list no matter who you are, and what you do. The Unexamined Life Is not Worth Living Essay Example

Essays on The Unexamined Life Is not Worth Living Essay The paper "The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living" is an outstanding example of an essay on philosophy. The quotation from Socrates means that life to have value should be examined, reviewed, and remunerated. There are diverse issues to be expounded on: firstly, from whose perspective should one’s life be deemed valuable? Secondly, who should do the examination of life that should be taken insignificance? And thirdly, as human beings, should the reason for living to be taken as a universal perspective or that from the point of view of the individual? To address these concerns and to clearly explain the quotation, the point of view that should be taken is the individual’s perspective where one’s life is deemed valuable when activities and endeavors are pursued the improvement of the wellbeing of others – not only of oneself.   One, therefore, agrees with Socrate’s contention that people should question the validity of one’s actions in able to gauge their relevance, not only to oneself but to others. As averred by Angelo (2011), â€Å"the "unexamined life"†¦ is the opposite of the life Socrates tried to live, and in that sense I know = I have learned or I have discovered that I am without wisdom. Socrates knew that he was without wisdom because he had questioned [examined] himself and questioned [examined] all others he could find who was said to be wise, and nowhere did he find the wisdom that he has sought, wisdom meaning here: knowledge of the correct way for a human being to live, knowledge of the particular excellence that is proper to human nature† (Angelo par. 5). These statements indicate that when a person does not know or question learning how one should live, then, the purpose of living is defeated. To engage in frequent self-assessment gives humans validity to support t hat their lives are better than living things without rational abilities and therefore no way to indicate if the life lived is indeed worth living.

Eddies actions Essay Example For Students

Eddies actions Essay To an audience watching this particular scene when the play first was released in theatres, they would be not only shocked by Eddies actions, but also repulsed, because in the early nineteen hundreds, homosexuality was highly frowned upon and seen as a disgusting global epidemic that spread sexually transmitted infections (STIs). To people then, if someone was a homosexual then they were lower than them. Eddies actions would have very dramatically impaired their opinion of Eddie, making them think of him as a more disgraceful person. Strangely, affect the kiss, the relationship between Catherine and Eddie has not been completely destroyed, however it is almost totally gone. By the end of the play, their relationship (along with Eddie) is dead. The action that breaks it completely is Eddie telephone call to the Immigration Office; a manoeuvre that he hoped would get Rodolfo out of his life for good, but ended up having drastic consequences that no one would have imagined happening. At this point in the play and at this point in Eddies mind, he is willing to do anything to get rid of Rodolfo so that he can claim Catherine for himself. He is even willing to break all of the ethical rules of immigrated families and tell the authorities on one of his own kind.  If I were in charge of directing this scene on stage, I would need to make sure that the actors playing the characters were able to cover a wide range of emotions because the final scenes features emotional roller-coasters for all characters. When Eddie calls the Immigration Office, I would cast the lighting so that it was dark, and try to have Eddie talking in a phone box in the middle of the stage, with half of his face covered in light and the other half shrouded by the dark. By doing this, it would show the audience how two-faced Eddie really is and how evil he has turned from a once good person. When Catherine discovers what it is that Eddie has done to Rodolfo, and to Marco as well, she realises that there is no longer any kind of relationship between her and Eddie, and all that she feels for him is anger, hate, and what once was pity has now turned into disgust and loathing. She sees him as a rat! He belongs in the sewer! He bites people when they sleep! He comes when nobodys lookin and poisons decent people! In the garbage he belongs! She wants everyone to know what kind of person she is and what he can do with his manipulative, but not to mention confused and twisted, mind. The first time that Catherine announced her and Rodolfos engagement, she wished more than anything for Eddie to put his issues behind him and bless them as a couple, and she also wished for him to go to their wedding without a grudge. But, because of the actions that Eddie has carried out, and because of the words he has spoken, Catherine only wishes now for him to stay as far away from her as possible. At the end of the play, Catherine decided many things about Eddie Carbone (this is shown in all its entirety when Catherine doesnt say a word when Eddie is stabbed, and it is only when he is clearly dying that she apologises for her actions). The first of these is that he is not worth anyones trouble, because if you give him any effort of your own, hell turn it against you and throw it back in your face. .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c , .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c .postImageUrl , .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c , .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c:hover , .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c:visited , .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c:active { border:0!important; } .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c:active , .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uc7c081fa634e471e8467cfa667a7633c:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Elsinore in ashes. (theater in former Yugoslavia) EssayAnother conclusion that Catherine came to about Eddie is that he is a sick, mentally twisted and perverted human being, who cant accept it if something is taken away from him unwillingly. But the most important decision that Catherine has made about Eddie is that he cannot let the ones he loves leave his so called parentally guiding grasp. If he does lose a loved one, be it by death, moving location or to another man, he will try everything he can to try and get them back. This feeling of Catherine is what motivates the entire story and what causes Eddie to go to the extremes that he finally did go to. In Conclusion Throughout the play, we see the character Eddie Carbone deteriorate as a husband, as an uncle and also as a human being. We realise what type of person he really is when he finds out that his niece is in love with another man and he gradually loses all sagacious control over his thoughts, words and actions. His wife may be the first person to notice how obvious his incestuous feelings have become, but it is not long before Marco, Rodolfo and unfortunately Catherine notice them too. The four major events that happen after this group realisation (the destruction of Catherine and Eddies relationship, the kisses from Eddie to Catherine and Rodolfo, the barging in of the immigration officers and the climactic death of Eddie) are all caused by Eddies irate actions and debauched feelings. The relationship between Eddie and Catherine was always doomed to end in tragedy, because from the first instance we see them speak together, there is clearly some friction and frustration between the two. This friction is made a lot more prominent as the story develops, and by comparing the monstrous creature the Eddie has turned into at the end of the play to the once innocent and protective person that Eddie once was at the beginning, it is easy to see how much difference simple emotions such as jealousy, lust, passion, hate and anger can do to a man and to those around him who he loves.

â€Å"There is always the option of cosmetic surgery,† I never thought I’d be hearing those words coming from the mouth of my doctor. I was only in 5th grade, barely old enough to realize what plastic surgery was, let alone having it preformed on me. Upon returning to my gram mama’s, I silenced myself, soaking in the quiet trotting, pit patting of long nails as the graced the wood porch. Rounding the corner, two friends are awaiting my return. Buddy’s tongue all dangling and what not from his mouth, tail ferociously swatting as if there were a million flies to escape from, and his usual case of ants in the pants. That dog just doesn’t know how to sit, or stay even. Coco on the other hand, was like a wild beast, untamable yet calm and curious. His gaze was alarming, intimidating, one eye brown and one blue. Then he backed down, enabling me to enter his domain. Silence can be intriguing, inviting in a way. To it I gladly obliged, collapsing to a sit a top the faded wooden deck. Buddy, always being an oversensitive, attention-seeking sort of pup, was the first to take to my side. I took to his fur, coarse, yet long, warm, and welcoming. Like a sponge that absorbs the previous thoughts, trials, and tribulations of the day. Coca sensed a sort of neglect and pranced forward, nose to the sky. He accompanied my right side. Then rebellion, jealousy, and rage grabbed a hold of Coca. He lunged for Buddy, the sweet, helpless, Buddy and gnawed at his neck. The next few moments are a bit unclear. My thoughts and feelings are scattered within yelping, barking, and screaming. A little scream escapes from my mouth, flowing over my tongue. I looked down, noticing the tear. I could say it was mountainous, in a disgusting, never been explored sort of way. That’s when I turned away, unable to bear it any longer. I could feel it escaping, flowing, ragi ng rapids of my own crimson blood tricking down my arm. Total Quality Management (TQM)

Total Quality Management (TQM) Free Online Research Papers Michael J. Stahl (1994, p. 4) defines Total Quality Management (TQM) as a systems approach to management that aims to continuously increase value to customers by designing and continuously improving organizational processes and systems. TQM approach is a customer oriented form of management where all members of the organization involved strive together to improve the organization by working together in all problem solving efforts. As a systems-oriented mechanism for structuring, motivating, evaluating, and otherwise organizing a business and its productive activities, TQM is more than a style of management or a way of creating relationships between the units within a company. Total Quality Management provides a viable framework for reducing product or service defects that diminish profitability while also creating a system in which leadership and management focus on the goal of zero defects in an empowered work setting. TQM is considered a management strategy that is meant to imbed awareness of quality in all organizational processes. TQM is in no way limited in its application. TQM has been widely used in manufacturing. The use of Total Quality Management proves itself to be relevant with everyday concerns of both public and private organ ¬izations over such essential issues such as the need to increase productivity, employee morale, and employee feelings of belongingness. These concerns can be addressed while concurrently enhancing organizational efficiency and effectiveness. Certain points are designed to facilitate the management of quality, such as: instituting a constancy of purpose; developing and instituting the new philosophy; ceasing dependence on mass inspection; ending lowest-tender contracts; instituting training on the job; instituting leadership that is facilitative of TQM; driving out fear; breaking down barriers; eliminating exhortations; permitting pride of workmanship; encourag ing education; and, the demonstration of top management commitment and action. When a company implements a Total Quality Management system it is a difficult as well as time consuming process that will bring about a number of changes in an organization. The most resistance in this process is given to the organization by the company’s middle managers. This process leaves the middle manager with the feeling that they have lost control and to some extent as if their importance within the organization has been diminished. Cafe Chez Moi uses 8 key elements of Total Quality Management in their operations. Foremost and most important leadership is used. The leaders at Cafà © Chez Moi are responsible for providing the company with vision and install the values that guide the rest of the employees. For any business to be successful leaders must be committed to leading their employees by demonstrating their own personal beliefs and commitment through their daily practices. Cafà © Chez Moi uses trust as their second most important key element in TQM. Trust can become the foundation of TQM and without the company has nothing to build on. With trust upper management can allow some decision making throughout the other employees. Trust allows for employees to feel a sort of empowerment within the organization. Third of the 8 key elements on Cafà © Chez Moi’s list falls in line with trust and that’s integrity. When a company pursues integrity within customers can insure the morals involved in any dealings with the company. Customers expect and deserve honesty, values, fairness, and sincerity and they get just that when they involve themselves with a company that places such a significant value on integrity. Ethics falls right in line with trust and integrity. A company with good ethics can establish a business code of ethics that outlines guidelines that all employees are to adhere to in the performance of their work. Human Pollution and Hazardous Chemicals - Essay Example The research paper â€Å"Human Pollution and Hazardous Chemicals† investigates the influence of hazardous chemicals on human health through ways such as water, soil, and air (atmosphere). Human pollution are man-made pollutions that are caused by human beings through release of toxic substances and hazardous chemicals into the natural environment thereby causing hazardous and huge health effects and undesirable environment for human health. The great increase in human pollution results from faster population increase, increased industrialization and faster infrastructure development that forces man to clear the natural resources available for better ecosystem being. These results from human actions and activities like energy generation especially from nuclear generating plant, consumption, industrial production, waste disposal, and transportation. The pollutants may reach the surrounding human environments through ways such as water, soil, and air (atmosphere). Studies have sh own that most of the water pollutants come from land such as chemical fertilizers, detergents, pesticides, heavy metals, oil, plastics, sewage, and other metals where they accumulate deep down in the ocean flow and sediments, and later consumed by marine organisms which may later be re-introduced to the global food chain when they are consumed by man. Pollutants like Sulphur dioxide gas and carbon monoxide when excessively released into the atmosphere may lead to depletion of ozone layer leading to global warming and changes in climate systems.
